Note: Before I start, I wanted to let everyone know: as I haven't been getting as many comments lately, I think it is because I haven't been doing the kind of posts y'all want to read. So I have a couple of polls on my sidebar, so you can tell me what you want to read. If you would please vote on those, that would be great! Thanks so much!
Hello everyone! This is actually a post I wrote quite soon after I started this blog. But no one was reading it then. ;-) Anyway, I thought I would re-post it, since summer has come around again. I hope you enjoy! I remember, forget the sunscreen. =P Here it is:
"Summer is here! Yes, you're pulling out last year's bathing suit and goggles. Oh, and don't forget the sunscreen! Or then again, maybe you should forget the sunscreen.
You've probably heard over the past few years that if you don't wear sunscreen every time you get in the sun, you'll get skin cancer. Which means you should always wear sunscreen.
But I've come across some interesting facts. Here are the links I got them from:
http://www.worldimage.com/blog/archives/000027_sunscreen_dangers.html
http://www.skinbiology.com/toxicsunscreens.html
So you don't have to go through all of those facts, here are some of the mains ones that may make you decide that sunscreen isn't such a good idea after all, no matter what the scientists say.
- Sunscreen actually increases your chance of skin cancer.
- It blocks your skins ability to make Vitamin D by more than 95%.
- Only one out of many things it causes in women is increased breast cancer.
- Only one out of many things it causes in men is sex identity confusion... in other words, feminization.
- DDT - Used in insecticide
- Dioxin - Used for chemical by-product during manufacturing of insecticides and plastic.
- 2, 4D - Used in weed killer.
You'd think people who make this stuff would actually test it before they started saying it protects you."
So, yeah, forget putting on the sunscreen every day.
Like I said, why on *earth* do these people say these things help if they haven't even tested it!
Hope you enjoyed the post!
In Christ alone,
~Madison

5 cups of tea:
That's so crazy, Madison! I had NO idea!!! My mom usually buys all natural sunscreen without all of that nasty stuff in it. We live in southern California right by the beach, so we'd be badly burned without it. I'll defiantly be using it less now though!
I'll answer your new polls.
Love and Blessings,
Cassie
WOW! I will definately keep that in mind! Thanks for sharing that especially as summer starts to roll around :)
Blessings :)
Oh and I did vote in the poll :)
Hi Madison! That was an interesting post...I think I remember reading it before but it was a good "refresher"!
Good post.
I have gone without wearing sunscreen for quite a while now, and I wholeheartedly agree with all your findings.
In my personal opinion, it's absolutely unnecessary. If you have fair skin, then go inside when your body tells you it's had enough sun. I have somewhat olive skin, so I can stand it. I usually get a very mild burn early in the summer and stay perfectly fine all year long after that. We do use all-natural sunscreen on my little siblings, but I am still skeptical about that. Sun is good! We just need to use our judgment rather than what's in the bottle.
And hey, iffen you are prone get burnt, just get an aloe vera plant to keep handy.
Great post Madison!!
